Fingall Accepts USAB Invite

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshman Nadia Fingall has accepted an invitation to attend the 2017 USA Basketball Women's U19 World Cup Team trials May 18-21 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 
Thirty-three players will attend the camp in an attempt to make the final 12-member team, which will represent the United States at the FIBA U19 World Cup July 22-30 in Cividale del Friuli and Udine, Italy. The United States is the six-time defending U19 gold medalists.
 
A Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention selection, Fingall appeared in 36 games and started eight during her debut season on The Farm. She posted season averages of 4.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per outing and shot a 50.8 percent from the floor (67-of-132), fifth-best in the Pac-12 among first-year players.
 
Fingall scored in double figures six times, including a career-high 14 in a win over CSUN on Nov. 20. She also chipped in 11 against Wichita State (Nov. 25), 13 at CSU Bakersfield (Dec. 1), 11 at George Washington (Dec. 21), 12 at Arizona (Jan. 1) and 10 against Oregon State (Jan. 8)
 
Fingall made her first of eight consecutive starts against Yale on Dec. 28 and had eight points and six rebounds in 21 minutes. She had nine games with at least five rebounds, including a season-high eight against UC Davis on Dec. 4.
 
This will be the third USA team trials appearance for Fingall. She also participated in the 2016 USA Women's U18 National Team Trials last May and the 2014 USA Women's U17 World Championship Team Trials in May 2014.
 
The FIBA U19 World Cup is contested every other year. USA women's teams are 73-12 in U19/Junior World Cups, capturing a sixth-consecutive gold in 2015 with a 7-0 record.
 
The draw to determine the preliminary round was held Feb. 1. The USA was placed in Group A and will open against Mali on July 22, face China on July 23 and cap the preliminary round against host Italy on July 25. Following the preliminary round, teams will be seeded according to group play, and all participating teams will advance to the July 26 round of 16. Winners will advance to the July 28 medal quarterfinals, while the remaining teams will continue playing out for classification. The medal semifinals will be held July 29, and the gold and bronze medal games are slated for July 30.
