Modi, Neff to National Team

Winter Cup Release Opens in a new window

Following two days of competition at the 2019 Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nev., former Stanford gymnasts Akash Modi and Robert Neff earned two of the 12 spots on the U.S. Senior Men's National Team.

The duo, which qualified based on all-around score after Friday's preliminary session, will represent the United States through the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Mo. in August.

The full list of team members can be found below. The gymnasts either qualified to the team based on the February 15 all-around rankings, or were named to the team by the Men's Program Committee following the Winter Cup.

Neff finished fifth in Friday's all-around with a score of 81.800, including taking third in the parallel bars. Modi was seventh on Friday, registering an all-around score of 81.500. Senior Grant Breckenridge also qualified for the Sunday finals by way of a 78.550 all-around score in the prelims.

Breckenridge would register the best improvement in score among all the finalists, turning in an 81.850 – Sunday's fourth-best all-around score. At conclusion of the competition, Breckenridge earned the bronze medal in parallel bars (27.700), highlighted by a 14.100 in the Sunday finals.

Stanford will return to action on February 23 when the Card hosts the International Collegiate Open, featuring Olympic Champion Japan and Cal, at 4 p.m. from Burnham Pavilion.
