STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford redshirt senior center back Tanner Beason has been named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List it was announced Thursday.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual intercollegiate award administered by United Soccer Coaches and presented annually at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. This year's trophy presentation and banquet will take place Friday, Jan. 10.
Fifteen will be named semifinalists finalists in early December with three finalists announced on December 13 following a vote of NCAA Division I coaches. Beason is one of six players on the 36-person watch list that was a semifinalist for the award last season.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967. In 2015, two-time Stanford All-American and 2016 Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year Jordan Morris became the first Cardinal men's player to win the honor.
A team captain, Beason was voted a first-team All-American by United Soccer Coaches after putting together a brilliant junior campaign in which he was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, the first in conference history to receive both honors. He led the Pac-12 in both goals (6) and points (15) in conference matches and had career-high totals of eight goals and five assists.
Beason has started every one of Stanford's 67 games over the past three seasons. The Cardinal has posted a 0.52 GAA average since 2016 with 41 shutouts.
The nation's most successful collegiate men's soccer program over the last half-decade, Stanford has won three of the last four NCAA titles, five consecutive Pac-12 championships and posted a 77-14-18 (.789) overall record since 2014.
