BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford traveled across the Bay for the opening day of the Cal Cup and picked up two ranked victories, defeating No. 12 UC Davis and No. 13 Fresno State, improving to 4-0 on the year. The invitational concludes Sunday as the Cardinal battles No. 3 UC Irvine at 8:30 a.m.

The Cardinal featured its best offensive performance so far in the early season against the Aggies, scoring 19 goals with nine different goal scorers. 

Sarah Klass asserted herself in the first quarter for Stanford, scoring three of the Cardinal's first four goals, helping the second-ranked team lead 4-2 after one quarter of play.

Stanford continue to attack in the second, this time led by Hannah Constandse, now the second freshman in four games for the Cardinal to finish a game with five goals (Katie Lyons). Stanford's seven-goal outburst in the second quarter is its most in a single period so far this season.

Ahead 11-5 at the break, the Cardinal used its defense to close out the win, holding the Aggies scoreless in the third period, while adding six more goals of its own, from five different scorers. 

With the game firmly in hand, Stanford added two more scores in the fourth to close out the 19-9 victory.

The Cardinal defense came up big again in its second match of the day, limiting the Bulldogs to only one goal in each period.

Klass continued to be the early aggressor for Stanford, scoring twice in the opening quarter to help the Cardinal to a 4-1 advantage, while Hannah Shabb netted two more before halftime as Stanford soared ahead, 6-1. 

Klass finished with two more goals, finishing the day with nine total scores for the Cardinal.
