BOSTON – As Stanford field hockey readies for its postseason, three Cardinal student-athletes have earned All-America East attention. Junior Megan Frost and freshman Cara Sambeth were named to the all-conference second team, while Sambeth was chosen to the All-Rookie squad. Frost and senior Isabelle Pilson earned nods to the All-Academic team.
One of the most dynamic midfielders in the conference, Frost earns her third All-America East accolade after a second team selection in 2020 and an All-Rookie choice in 2019. The Charlotte, North Carolina native has two assists this season, while playing a key role in the Cardinal defense that played without a goalkeeper for 10 of 12 contests this season. Frost also adds to her collection of academic accolades with the All-Academic team honor.
Sambeth has made an enormous impact as the team's only freshman, and is one of four freshmen in the conference to earn both All-Rookie and All-America East status. A native of Munich, Germany, Sambeth has one assist and nine defensive saves this season as a key on the Cardinal back line, leading the country in defensive saves per game and ranking second overall. Showing her versatility, Sambeth played the final two games as a goalkeeper, where she made three saves with one shutout.
Pilson earns her second-straight All-Academic Team honor, while consistently earning academic praise from the America East and the NFHCA over her career. Pilson holds the highest grade point average of any of the honorees, while also contributing to the staunch Cardinal back line that played without a safety net.
Stanford earned a berth in the America Tournament with a win over UMass Lowell last weekend, continuing its long-held streak of not missing a conference tournament. The team is 4-8 overall (3-5 AE), and faces Albany in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, Nov. 4.
