Women's Swimming Falls to Third-Ranked Arizona
Cardinal suffers second straight loss of the season.
TUCSON, AZ - Stanford sophomore Misty Hyman (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain HS) swept the butterfly events, but it wasn't enough as third-ranked Arizona (5-1 overall, 1-0 in the Pac-10) beat the second-ranked Cardinal (3-2, 0-1) 182-112 on Friday afternoon at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The Wildcats won each of the first eight events in its first dual win over the Cardinal in over a decade.
Hyman posted NCAA Championship automatic qualifying times en route to first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (54.07) and 200-yard butterfly (1:57.89). The Cardinal also received victories from Jessica Foschi (Old Brookville, NY/Friends Academy) in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.00) and Shelly Ripple (Baton Rouge, LA/Parkview Baptist HS) in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:04.58).
The Cardinal continues its Arizona swing on Saturday at No. 23 Arizona State at 11 a.m.
