Jessica Mendoza Named National Player of the Week
Softball standout wins NFCA honor.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman outfielder Jessica Mendoza was named National Player of the Week for March 2-8, the NFCA announced today. With the award, Mendoza becomes the first softball player in Stanford history to receive the award.
In last week's Cal State Fullerton/Easton Showcase, Mendoza went 12-for-19 (.632) with 11 RBI, 11 runs scored, 4 home runs, 2 doubles and a 1.474 slugging percentage. A native of Camarillo, Calif., Mendoza had a hit in every game as she helped lead #9 Stanford to the tournament title with a 6-0 record. For the weekend, the Cardinal outscored its opponents 55-2.
Against Pacifc (Mar. 5), Mendoza went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. She went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored as she had a triple and home run in the win over Auburn (Mar 5). Versus Northwestern (Mar. 6), she went 2-for-2 with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored as she had a double and HR. She had a perfect 4-for-4 afternoon against Illinois State (Mar. 6), with 4 runs scored, 2 RBI, a double and home run.
On the year, Mendoza leads the Cardinal in average (.500) hits (38), runs (26), doubles (8), triples (2), home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.895).
