STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore right-hander Justin Wayne (Honolulu, HI/Punahou HS) threw a complete game four-hitter to lead second-ranked Stanford (27-10 overall, 12-2 in the Pac-10) to a 13-2 win over No. 24 USC (25-18, 11-3) on Saturday afternoon at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal lead the Trojans by one game in the Pac-10 standings going into the third and final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sunken Diamond.

Wayne went the distance for the first time in his Stanford career to improve to 4-1. He also posted a career-high 14 strikeouts, and struck out six of the final seven batters he faced. In all, Wayne retired 18 of the last 19 Trojans to come to the plate.

The Stanford offense scored in seven of its eight at-bats to give Wayne all the support he would need. Stanford took the lead for good non a two-run single by junior Damien Alvarado (Sacramento, CA/Jesuit HS) in the bottom of the first, and extended the lead to 6-0 with four runs in the third. Junior Eric Bruntlett (N. Lafayette, IN/Harrison HS) highlighted the rally with a two-out, two-run single.After USC's Brad Ticehurst (Los Alamitos, CA/Mater Dei HS) blasted a solo homer in the top of the fourth to make it 6-1, Stanford ran away and hid with two in the fourth, single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh and two more in the eighth. Senior Josh Hochgesang (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills HS) and juniors John Gall (Portola Valley, CA/St. Francis HS), Edmund Muth (Long Beach, CA/St. John Bosco HS) and Jeff Rizzo (San Diego, CA/La Jolla HS) all blasted solo home runs in the final four innings to help the Cardinal pull away.

Seven different players collected two hits apiece for the Cardinal, while Bruntlett drove in three runs and three others drove in two.

Junior Carlos Casillas (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica HS) had two singles to lead the Trojans. Sophomore Rik Currier (Dan Point, CA/Capistrano Valley HS) took the loss for USC, and fell to 3-5.
