TUCSON, Ariz. - Junior shortstop Eric Bruntlett's career-high four hits led No. 5 Stanford to a 12-4 victory over Arizona here Saturday night.
The Cardinal improved to 19-8 on the year and lead the Pac-10 at 5-0 in conference play. The Cats fell to 20-13 and 3-5.
Stanford totaled a season-high 19 hits and added eight stolen bases (in nine attempts), also a 1999 best.
Bruntlett scored three and drove in two. Junior second baseman Jeff Rizzo collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in two.
Sophomore right-hander Justin Wayne (3-1) allowed two earned runs over 6.0 innings to pick up the win. Freshman right-hander Ben Diggins (5-2) took the loss for the Cats.
For Arizona, sophomore shortstop Keoni DeRenne went 3-for-4 with a double. DeRenne has reached base in 10 of his last 12 plate appearances.
Arizona and Stanford conclude their series at 1 p.m. at Sancet Field.
