Cardinal Tops Northwestern, 7-2

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5 Stanford women's tennis team defeated Northwestern 7-2 in non-conference action this afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal took a 4-2 lead after singles competition. Cardinal Marissa Irvin defeated Wildcat Katherine Nasser 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles spot while No. 2 Teryn Ashley won her match 7-6, 6-3 for Stanford, when Northwestern's Shannon Duffy double-faulted on match point.

In doubles, the Cardinal recorded wins in all three positions to secure the team victory. Stanford improves to 14-2 overall, while Northwestern falls to 6-4.

Stanford will will travel to UNLV for another non-conference meet on Thurs., March 25 at 1:30 p.m. The Cardinal will return to Taube Family Tennis Stadium and Pac-10 play vs. No. 6 UCLA on Fri., April 2 at 1:30 p.m.
