Cardinal Unaffected by Rain Delay, Defeat Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Stanford Cardinal (9-1, 4-0 in Pac-10) didn't let a forty-five minute rain delay distract as they defeated the Arizona Wildcats 5-8, 0-6 in Pac-10), 6-1 at the Robson Tennis Center on Friday. In his first dual match as a Wildcat, freshman Jari Niskala defeated Cardinal Ali Ansari, 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 6 position.

In other singles action, UA senior Adnan Novo was defeated by Cardinal Ryan Wolters, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. position. At the No. 2 spot, Geoff Abrams of Stanford defeated Wildcat junior Jean-Noel LaCoste, 6-2, 6-2.Senior Pascal Salasca (UA) fell to KJ Hippensteel (STAN), 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. Playing in the No. 4 position, Cardinal Alex Kim defeated junior Michel Stopa of Arizona, 6-1. Scotty Scott of Stanford defeated Wildcat freshman Caleb Marquardt, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, Stanford swept the three matches to earn to doubles point. At the No. 1 position, Wolters and Hippensteel (STAN) defeated Lacoste and Salasca (UA), 8-5. The Wildcat doubles team of Brown and Stopa fell to Abrams and Kim (STAN), 8-2 at the No. 2 position. Playing at the No. 3 position, Stanford's team of Scott and Ansari defeated Arizona's Niskala and Arapovic.

The Wildcats be in action tomorrow at noon when they host the Cal Bears at the Robson Tennis Center.
