Box Score

STANFORD, CA - Sophomore Joe Borchard (Camarillo, CA/Camarillo HS) had a home run and four RBI to lead No. 6 Stanford (37-12) to a 16-3 win over San Francisco (19-32-1) on Monday night at Sunken Diamond. Stanford has now won 10 straight, marking its longest win streak since it won a school record 18 straight from April 16-May 24, 1996.

The Dons took a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles by Taggert Bozied (Denver, CO/Arvada HS) and Jeff Pritchard (Carmel Valley, CA/Allen Hancock JC), but Stanford rattled 11 off unanswered runs en route to its largest victory margin of the season.

Stanford took the lead for good with a five-run third inning against Don starter T.J. McCall (0-5; Tucson, AZ/Pima CC). Borchard, who is now hitting .410 with nine homers and 50 RBI, had a two-RBI double in the inning while senior Josh Hochgesang (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills HS) and junior Craig Thompson (Dallas, TX/Lake Highlands HS) added run-scoring base hits. The Cardinal then banged out three triples in the fifth inning alone en route to five more runs. Hochgesang had a two-run triple in the rally to go along with an RBI three-bagger from junior Edmund Muth (Long Beach, CA/St. John Bosco HS) and a triple by junior Jeff Rizzo (San Diego, CA/La Jolla HS).

The Cardinal later added one in the sixth, four in the seventh and one in the eighth to win going away. Three Stanford pitchers combined on a four-hitter, marking the 11th time this season Stanford has held an opponent to five hits or less. Starter Justin Wayne (Honolulu, HI/Punahou HS) worked the first 3.0 innings to earn the win and improve to 7-1 in '99 and 13-1 for his Stanford career.

Stanford looks for its 11th straight win on Tuesday when it hosts Santa Clara at 6 p.m. at Sunken Diamond. USF closes out its regular season this weekend with a four-game West Coast Conference home series against Gonzaga. The Dons and Bulldogs will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at noon.
