STANFORD, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Gabe Gardner posted a season-high 35 kills to help Stanford come from two games down to defeat Loyola Marymount in men's volleyball action Friday night at Burnham Pavilion. Game scores were 7-15, 10-15, 15-4, 15-13, 15-9.
Junior outside hitter Andy Witt and sophomore middle blocker Brett Youngberg added 22 and 18 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Brad Griffith, recorded 71 assists.
The Cardinal was led defensively by Gardner, who posted eight blocks, followed by Youngberg with a career-high seven blocks.
Stanford is now 1-0 on the season while the Lions drop to 0-1.
The Cardinal will face LMU again tomorrow night (Jan. 16) at Burnham Pavilion. The match is slated for 7 p.m. Although both teams play in the MPSF conference, this two-match series will count only toward the teams' overall records.
