LOS ANGELES - Eli Fairfield had 21 kills to lead the No. 11 USC men's volleyball team to a 15-11, 12-15, 15-13, 15-11 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation win over No. 7 Stanford on Saturday (Feb. 6) in USC's North Gym. USC improved to 6-1 overall (its best start since a 10-0 start in 1994) and 5-0 in the MPSF (its best league start since going 9-0 in 1994). Stanford fell to 2-4 and 1-4.
Brook Billings added 19 kills while teammate Trevor Julian notched 12 kills for the Trojans.
Gabe Gardner led the Cardinal with a match-high 28 kills. Gardner, who started for Troy in 1996-1997, was playing in his first match at USC since transferring to Stanford.
The Trojans won the first game 15-11 behind the hitting of Julian(6 kills), while committing only 3 attack errors overall. The Cardinal took game two 15-12 but USC held off Stanford in game three 15-13. Troy closed out the match in game four 15-11.
