STANFORD, Calif. - For the second time in as many days, the fifth-ranked Stanford Cardinal women's tennis team swept a Pac-10 rival, easily defeating Washington 9-0 Saturday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Yesterday afternoon, the Cardinal opened up conference action with a sweep over Washington State.
Stanford improves to 4-0 in dual-match action, 2-0 in the Pac-10.
In one of the more dueling matches of the meet, Cardinal freshman Gabriela Lastra defeated Washington's Ilona Kordonskaya 7-5, 7-6 after more than two hours of play.
In doubles action, a cross-court shot by Cardinal Teryn Ashley set up her and Marissa Irvin's third match point. A mishit by a Huskie secured the duo's victory.
Playing No.3 doubles, Washington's Jennifer Svanfeldt and Zeta Wagner held off four match points while down 7-1, to win the next two games. But Stanford's Jennifer Heiser and Keiko Tokuda pulled out the victory, 8-3.
The team will conclude its five-match homestand Tues., Feb. 2 vs. Santa Clara. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
