STANFORD, Calif - Senior Josh Hochgesang (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills HS), junior John Gall (Portola Valley, CA/St. Francis HS) and sophomore Billy Jacobson (Spring, TX/St. Thomas HS) all had two-RBI doubles in an eight-run second inning that led No. 6 Stanford (30-12) to an 8-3 win over visiting San Jose State (21-23-1) on Tuesday night at Sunken Diamond. The eight-run inning was Stanford's second in as many games after doing it in the eighth inning of Sunday's 13-5 win at California.

After there were two runs in and two outs in the second, Stanford strung together three doubles, a single and a walk to break the game wide open. Jacobson gave the hosts a 4-0 lead with the two-bagger to left-center, while Gall followed with the two-run double to left and Hochgesang wrapped up the inning with a two-run hit to left-center.

Four Stanford pitchers then combined on a six-hitter to lead the Cardinal to its third straight victory. Starter Justin Wayne (Honolulu, HI/Punahou HS) allowed just two hits over 3.0 scoreless innings, while striking out four, to improve to 5-1. Offensively for the Cardinal, juniors Eric Bruntlett (North Lafayette, IN/Harrison HS), Nick Day (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) and Jeff Rizzo (San Diego, CA/La Jolla HS) recorded two hits apiece.

Senior Todd Duncan (San Jose, CA/Bellarmine Prep HS) led the Spartans offensively with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Spartan reliever Mike Alciati (Morgan Hill, CA/Gavilan JC) took the loss and dropped to 1-1. Stanford returns to action this weekend when it hosts Oregon State in Pacific-10 Conference play on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cardinal enters the weekend tied for the Pac-10 lead with USC at 14-4 with six games remaining. San Jose State travels to Air Force for a three-game WAC series on Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
