Postgame Quotes

University of Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini -

"This is a great win for our program. Stanford made a great run at us inthe second half, and Lindsey Yamasaki oh, my she was very good. I wasready to go out there myself and hit her on the head.

"We made some changes on defense in the second half. We went into adefense that we had not practiced at all a diamond-in-one. We put fourpeople in a zone defense in a diamond and had one person on Yamasaki.Resha (Bristol) and Julie (Brase) did a good job. We rebounded well andgot to the free throw line.

"This was a very important game for both teams, especially for us becauseit was at home. Before the game, our first key was not to allow (Milena)Flores to create off the penetration. She did not get a chance to be afactor with that at all.

"Getting them in foul trouble was huge. They are very quick in the post, but we have a lot more quickness. We were really able to get to them inthe post in transition. We also pulled our posts away from the basket andthat gave them a lot of problems, too."

Stanford University head coach Tara Van Derveer -

"I don't think that Arizona confused us with their defense, but it did takeaway what was working for us - Lindsey scoring from the outside. Hershooting is what kept us in the game. That was about the only scoringthreat that we had.

"Arizona is a very athletic team. They are very quick, and we did not havemuch of a chance to get into our offense. We did not get any offense offour defense because they only had nine or ten turnovers. They had greatdefense, and that keyed a lot of their offense.

"Their posts were not much of a threat to shoot from outside, but they wereable to drive. They also got the ball inside and scored a lot. They wereable to foul two of our post players out, and shoot and they shot 39 freethrows."

Arizona Players

Angela Lackey: "The difference today was that we forced them into moreturnovers than we committed. We knew we couldn't let them back into thegame after we built the five point lead. At the end, we focused on takingtime off the clock and making all of our shots."

Reshea Bristol: "We not as much of a bubble team anymore. We're notworrying about who we're playing we just want to win every game. "

"It was a compliment when Coach put me on Yamasaki. I just wanted to staywith her and deny the ball at all times."

Felecity Willis: "We have to play one game at a time. Today we challengedourselves because we don't want the NIT we want to go to the tournament. "

"Coach threw in a new defense today and we had never played it before. Thegames this week were very important. We don't know what the selectioncommittee is looking at for the tournament teams. Any time you can get asweep of any two schools in a week, it's a very positive thing."

Stanford Players

Milena Flores: "I think our effort was worse than average today. I shouldof exploited certain parts of their zone defense. I'm pretty disappointedin everything from today."

Lindsey Yamasaki: "The diamond defense that they ran against me allowedother people to get open, so in that respect it was good. Arizona did agood job denying me and keeping their player on me."

"When they put that man on me, I knew I had to get open. I don't usuallyrely on my outside shot, but today I just couldn't get my driving gamegoing."
