STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford University Softball team was swept in Pac-10doubleheader by #1 UCLA on Sunday afternoon at the Stanford SoftballComplex. The Bruins took game one by a 12-1 score, then won game two by a3-0 decision. With the losses, #8 Stanford moves to 35-18 overall, 5-13 inthe Pac-10, while UCLA goes to 49-2, 16-2 in the Pac-10.
In the first game, UCLA scored two runs in the first, three in thethird, three in the fourth and four more in the fifth on the way to thevictory. Stanford scored it's only run in the third inning on a passed ballby the UCLA catcher. Stacey Nuveman paced the Bruins as she hit two homeruns and had five RBI. Leading the way for Stanford was freshman JessicaMendoza, who went 2-for-2.
Game two saw UCLA scores its first run in the top of the fourthinning. After Nuveman sigled to lead off the inning, Julie Adams hit atriple to right center that gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead The Bruins laterscored two more runs in the seventh to provide the final margin of victory.Those runs came courtesy of four straight base hits by the Bruins with oneout.
Stanford returns to action on Saturday, May 1st, when the teamhosts Arizona State in a Pac-10 doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
