Stanford Sweeps UC San Diego

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's volleyball team routed UC San Diego in just over one hour this Easter afternoon at Burnham Pavilion. Game scores were 15-7, 15-3, 15-5.

Cardinal outside hitter Patrick Klein led all attackers with 13 kills. Six of those came during game two, when Stanford hit .618 as a team. Dan Zhang contributed nine kills and Marcus Skacel added eight to the winning effort.

Leading the Cardinal defensively, Brett Youngberg posted seven blocks, followed by Zhang and Josh Lukens with six each. As a team, Stanford registered 13 blocks to UC San Diego's one.

Lukens closed out the first two frames with two of his five kills on the afternoon. He then opened game three with two blocks. The sophomore setter finished the match with 36 assists.

The Cardinal improves to 9-9, 7-9 in the MPSF, while the Tritons fall to 4-19, 0-16 in league play.

Stanford will remain at home to play UC Santa Cruz on Fri., April 9.
