LOS ANGELES - The USC women's basketball team lost in the final seconds to Stanford, 60-59, on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 14) at the Lyon Center.

The Women of Troy fell to 7-15 overall, 3-10 in the Pacific-10 Conference, while the Cardinal improved to 14-9, 9-2. USC sophomore forward Tashara Carter led all scorers with 17 points and seven rebounds, while senior center Adrain Williams posted 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Freshman guard Tiffany Elmore added 10 points.

Stanford was lead by freshman forward Lindsey Yamasaki, who had 12 points, and sophomore center Carolyn Moos, who had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Stanford outrebounded USC, 38-29, and shot 51 percent from the field to the Women of Troy's 34 percent.

The Cardinal led, 29-24, at halftime and stayed in front until USC freshman forward Carmen Krause made a lay-up to put the Women of Troy ahead, 45-44, with 9:21 remaining. The Women of Troy edged out in front, taking as much as a five point lead (56-51) and held on until Moos hit a three-pointer with 52 seconds left, giving the Cardinal the lead at 58-57. USC then tied and regained the lead when Williams made two free throws with 39 seconds on the clock (59-58). Stanford's senior only senior, guard Regan Freuen answered with a lay-up with 22 seconds left. USC got one last shot off before the buzzer, but did not score.

"That was one great second half of basketball. It was real encouraging for us," said USC head coach Chris Gobrecht. "We played really well in the second half. It is nice to have Adrain Williams back. She really helps to close the gap against our opponents. We are all disappointed that we didn't play better defense down the stretch. They hit some really big shots and we didn't. We shouldn't have let that happen."
