STANFORD, CA -- Stanford improved to 2-1 Wednesday with an 18-3 win over Santa Clara (0-3). After losing the season-opener on the road, the Cardinal has won two straight at New Maloney Field by a total of 23 goals.
With several freshmen receiving a great deal of playing time, the Cardinal has improved rapidly over the last two weeks. Stanford displayed that improvement, jumping out to a 15-0 halftime lead over the Broncos. Santa Clara scored three straight goals in the second half, but Cardinal senior Carey Jones responded with three goals in less than three minutes for the final margin.
Stanford hosts St. Mary's Saturday and Duquesne Sunday, with both games starting at 1 p.m. on New Maloney Field.
