STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's tennis team, seeded second in the NCAA Tournament, defeated Pac-10 rival Oregon 5-0 this afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, hosted by the Cardinal at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
With the victory, Stanford advances to the NCAA Championships with the hopes of bringing home the program's unprecedented tenth national title. The finals are being hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. Round of 16 matches will begin Thurs., May 20. Stanford will face No. 16 Tennessee (5-2 winners over No. 50 Wisconsin). The Lady Vols are 18-7 on the season.
This is the first time all 16 Championship participants were required to compete at the regional level in the new NCAA postseason format.
The Cardinal clinched the match in singles competition, winning all of its matches in straight sets. Stanford's record improves to 25-2, while Oregon ends its season with a 12-12 mark.

Note: The fifth-ranked Stanford men's tennis team will take on No. 12 Baylor in the Round of 16 of the men's NCAA Championships after Baylor defeated Harvard this afternoon 4-1 in regional action. The men's finals are being hosted by the Unviersity of Georgia in Athens, Ga., and will begin Sat., May 22.
