Women's Tennis Defeats No. 21 Fresno State, 5-4

STANFORD, Calif. - The second-ranked Stanford women's tennisteam came from behind to defeat No. 21 Fresno State 5-4 this afternoon.The win closed out the Cardinal's home and regular seasons at TaubeFamily Tennis Stadium.

Today's match also marked the first time in nine seasons thatFresno State was able to score a point from Stanford. The Bulldogs fellto the Cardinal 8-1 in 1990.

Stanford improves to 23-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 18-6. Thirteenth-ranked Dora Djilianova of Fresno State upset third-rankedMarissa Irvin at the No. 1 singles spot for the biggest win of hercollegiate career. Irvin's defeat marked her fourth loss in her lastseven dual matches. The Bulldogs went on to win four of the six singlesmatches to take a 4-2 lead going into doubles action. But Stanford responded, winning all three doubles contests to take thedual match victory.

The Cardinal captured its 12th consecutive Pac-10 title last weekendwith wins over USC and UCLA, finishing league play with a perfect 8-0mark. The squad will head south this weekend to participate in thePac-10 Championships, held in Ojai, Calif. Nine league teams willcompete for individual conference championships in singles and doubles.
