Men's Golf Team Wins Season Opener

Comments on Husky Invitational win and season outlook

The Stanford men's golf team started the 1999-2000 season with a strong win at the Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington. The Cardinal finished with a two-day total score of 1106, nine strokes ahead of runner-up Oregon.

Cardinal junior Alex Aragon posted the first win of his collegiate career. Aragon carded rounds of 69, 75 and 70 for a total score of 214, two under par. Aragon's score was two strokes ahead of second place finisher Ryan Lavoie from Oregon.

Senior team captain Dusty Brett finished tied for fourth with a score of 220. Junior Eric Dahlberg placed 16th with a score of 225, and freshman Ron Won and junior transfer Philip Rowe tied for 21st with a total of 227. Freshman Jim Seki placed 27th with a score of 228.

The team will travel to Lake Forest, Ill. Oct. 4-5 to compete in the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern.
