Oct. 30, 1999

STOCKTON, Calif. -Freshman Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) and sophomore Erica Swesey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Bishop Eustace HS) scored to lead Stanford to a 2-1 field hockey win at Pacific Saturday. The Cardinal controlled the game, out-shooting the Tigers 14-7, and tallied both goals in a four-minute stretch late in the first half. Stanford improves to 8-8 overall while the Tigers fall 4-10 after the non-league game between NorPac rivals.

Pacific got a goal from Brenda Doyle with 20 minutes to play to cut the Cardinal lead to 2-1, but Stanford held on for the victory. The Cardinal is now 2-0 against the Tigers this season. The two teams may meet again Saturday at the NorPac Conference Tournament, to be held at Stanford. The third-seeded Tigers open play Friday at 2:30 p.m. against sixth-seeded Davis & Elkins College, with the winner meeting the second-seeded Cardinal Saturday at 2:30.

Stanford returns to action Sunday against UC Davis' club team at 1 p.m. at the Stanford Varsity Turf Field. Pacific is off until the meeting with the Senators at the NorPac Tournament.
