STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford won every race, led by sophomores Michael O'Neil (Roseburg, OR/Roseburg HS) and Mark Siebert (Devon, PA/Conestoga HS), to defeat San Francisco State 158-44 in a dual meet Friday afternoon at deGuerre Pool. The Cardinal, ranked No. 1 in the preseason coaches poll, improves to 2-1 while the Gators fall to 0-2.
O'Neil won the 1000 freestyle and the 200 individual medley while Siebert captured the 50 free and the 100 free. The Cardinal also got victories from freshman Thomas Zochowski (N. York, Ontario, Canada/St. Michael's) in the 200 free, senior Kurt Spenser (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) in the 100 butterfly, junior Steven Brown (Reno, NV/Reno) in the 100 backstroke, junior Clayton Jones (Coral Springs, FL/Princeton University) in the 500 free and junior Anthony Robinson (Houston, TX/Memorial) in the 100 breaststroke. The Cardinal also captured both relays.
Stanford is off from competition until No. 15 Arizona State visits deGuerre Pool on January 21 at noon.
