PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - It's Pasadena, not Hollywood, so the "Troy Walters'Story" did not end with the determined Stanford wide receiver making agame-winning catch.

That he made any catches was plenty impressive.

Three days earlier, Walters was downcast as he talked about having to missthe Rose Bowl after dislocating his right wrist in practice Tuesday.

On Thursday, however, Stanford coach Tyrone Willingham indicated there wassome chance that Walters might play. The first time Stanford got the ball onSaturday, there was Walters, lining up in his usual wide receiver spot.

He made a 28-yard catch to help Stanford get out of a hole at its 3 on theway to a first-quarter field goal, then caught a 19-yarder to the Badgers 3 toset up the Cardinal's only touchdown later in the quarter.

With Stanford threatening in the waning moments of the game, Waltersappeared to have a step on the defensive back on fourth-and-12 from theWisconsin 46, but had to watch as quarterback Todd Husak was sacked to end theCardinal's final chance in the 17-9 loss to Wisconsin.

Walters, the Biletnikoff Award winner this season as the nation's topreceiver, said the loss was disappointing, but that he still was thrilled toplay in the Rose Bowl - Stanford's first in 28 years.

"Tuesday and Wednesday were low points, so just being able to play wasspecial," he said after making three catches for 52 yards. "Once theadrenaline started, I didn't even think about my wrist."

LOW-SCORING: The 26 combined points were the fewest in the Rose Bowl sinceUSC beat Michigan 14-6 in 1977. Stanford was sixth in the nation in scoring, averaging 37.2 points a game, and Wisconsin was No. 10 at 35.6.

ONE LEFT: Ron Dayne, the Heisman Trophy winner and two-time Rose Bowl MVP,and coach Barry Alvarez have one game remaining together before their four-yearrelationship ends - the Hula Bowl.

CALIFORNIA DREAMING: Dayne might consider making the San Francisco 49ers,Oakland Raiders or San Diego Chargers his team of the future, since Californiaseems to bring out the best in him. The Badgers' rumbling runner has rushed for700 yards in three games in the state - 254 at San Jose State in 1997, 246 inthe 1999 Rose Bowl, and 200 in the win over Stanford.
