The Stanford women's gymnastics team defeated Arizona 194.275-191.275 in the Cardinal's season home opener. The Cardinal posted their first conference win of the season, and now stand at 3-1, 1-1 in the Pac-10.
The Cardinal took individual titles in every event except the all-around. Senior Larissa Fontaine turned in the top performance on the vault with a score of 9.925, which ties the fourth-highest school record, already held by Fontaine. Fontaine also took the floor exercise with a score of 9.85. Freshman phenom Abby Gair shared the title on the uneven bars with Nikki Beyschau of Arizona with a score of 9.9. Gair was the top finisher for the Cardinal in the all-around competition as well, placing second with a score of 38.8. Freshman Kelsey Stillinger also continued her stellar performance for the Cardinal, taking first place on the balance beam with a score of 9.875. Stillinger tied for second place on the vault with senior Jen Exaltacion with scores of 9.65. Exaltacion also placed second on the floor with a score of 9.85, and third in the all-around with a score of 38.65.
The Cardinal will remain at home to host Pac-10 foe Washington on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
