Stanford, Calif. - The 12th-ranked Stanford men's gymnastics team lost in its first home meet of the season to 10th-ranked California 222.70-to-215.605 today at Burhnam Pavilion. The loss, which is the second to Cal (4-0, 4-0 MPSF) in as many weeks, drops the Cardinal to 1-2 overall and in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Stanford did however receive outstanding performances from three of its gymnasts. Sophomore David Durante (Garwood, NJ) finished the meet with an all-around score of 53.450 which placed him third out of 19 competitors. California's Tal Moscovitz took top honors in the all-around with a score of 55.875.
Senior Craig Nesbitt (Springfield, MO) finished seventh in the all-around (45.500), but first in the parallel bars with a mark of 9.450. Nesbitt's teammate, junior Ricardo Andrade (Plymouth, MN), also took top honors in an individual event. Andrade recorded a 9.450 on the rings for first place.
Stanford placed two other gymnasts in the top 10 as well, with senior Jason Katsampes (Hummelstown, PA) tallying 52.400 for fifth place and junior Jason Blitz (Tempe, AZ) capturing sixth place with a 51.900.
The Cardinal will be back in action next week when they host the Cardinal Open on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in Burhnam Pavilion.
