TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 4 Florida State (7-2) won 13-1 in front of 4,182 atDick Howser Stadium to take two-of-three from No. 1 Stanford (6-3). FSUbroke open a 2-1 game with three runs in the fifth and put Stanford awaywith seven more in the bottom of the eighth.

RHP Mike Ziegler (2-0) shut down the Cardinal in his third career FSU start,allowing just one run on five hits, striking out 13 and walking one in seveninnings of work. The 13 strikeouts were the most for a Seminole pitchersince Chris Chavez struck out 13 at Georgia Tech last season.

Designated hitter John-Ford Griffin extended his hitting streak to 14 gamesas he went 4-for-5 with three doubles and a triple. Griffin was 10-for-15(.667) for the series with four RBI and four runs scored. He leads the teamwith a .528 batting average.

The Tribe got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the secondwithout a base hit. Center fielder Karl Jernigan drew a walk, stole secondand advanced to third on a balk. Left fielder Mike Futrell got the RBI witha sacrifice fly with to right.

Stanford catcher Damien Alvarado tied the score at one with a solo home runover the right field fence in the top of the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, FSU went on top for good with a run to make it2-1. With two outs, Jernigan and right fielder Chris Smith recordedback-to-back singles. Shortstop Brett Groves followed with a base hit toright to score Jernigan.

First baseman Ryan Barthelemy gave the Seminoles some breathing room with athree-run homer in the fifth. Designated hitter John-Ford Griffin doubledand second baseman Marshall McDougall walked before Barthelemy hit his thirdof the season.

FSU added another run in the sixth to make it 6-1 when Smith hit a solohome run to right, his third of the year.

In the top of the eighth, reliever Mike DiBlasi got two quick outs beforeissuing three straight walks to load the bases. Chris Whidden came in forDiBlasi and gave up a deep fly ball to center where Jernigan made a leapinggrab against the wall to save three runs and end the inning.

The Seminoles added seven runs in the bottom of the eighth on seven hits toput the game out of reach.

McDougall (2-for-4), Futrell (2-for-3) and Groves (2-for5) had multi-hitgames for the Tribe in addition to Griffin.
