STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal women fell to UC-Davis 9-8 in overtime in the season opener. Regulation play ended with the score at 7-7, but the Aggies went on to win 9-8, scoring the final goal with only 20 seconds left to play. Stanford senior Liz Britt led the team with 2 goals and 1 assist. Six other Stanford players each added 1 goal and goalkeeper Rachael Neumann finished with 7 saves.
In their first game of the year, Stanford starts with a record of 0-1. The Cardinal finished last season ranked first in the Western Women's Lacrosse League. This year the Cardinal welcomes 9 newcomers and returns 3 letterwinners, hoping to top last season's record of 14-4.
This Sunday, February 19, women's lacrosse travels to UC-Santa Cruz to take on the Banana Slugs at 1pm.
