Women's Gymnastics Triumphs Over Cal 195.35-193.15

Senior Larissa Fontaine turned in an astounding performance for the Cardinal Friday night at Burnham Pavilion, taking first place in every event to lead Stanford to a 195.35-193.5 victory over Cal. Friday was also senior night, a night to honor the seniors in their final conference home match of their collegiate career, and Stanford's three seniors and captains Fontaine, Sarah Harding and Kim Young were honored in a ceremony following the match.

Against Cal, Fontaine dominated the meet, taking the vault with a score of 9.825, the bars with a score of 9.925, balance beam with a 9.9, the floor with a 9.95 and the all-around with a total score of 39.6. The Cardinal swept the bars, with Katy Herbert taking second (9.875), Jen Exaltacion and Abby Gair tying for third (9.85), and senior Sarah Harding placing fourth. On the beam, sophomore Katy Herbert took second with a score of 9.8, and senior Sarah Harding placed second on the floor with a score of 9.9. Sophomore Katy Herbert took second place in the all-around with a new career high of 39.15.

Stanford will remain at home to host BYU on Monday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion. The match against the Cougars will be the Cardinal's last home meet of the 2000 season.
