The Stanford men's gymnastics team fell to 2-4 with a 226.375-to-219.30 loss to BYU at the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah. In the loss, freshman Marshall Erwin (Riverside, CT) scored a Stanford season-high 9.50 on the rings.
Erwin's score of 9.90 on the rings placed him in second behind BYU's Cortney Bramwell's 9.95 on the rings. At the Cardinal Open last week, Erwin scored his previous season-high score of 9.50.
Junior Jason Biltz (Tempe, Ariz.) finished second in the all-around competition with a 54.25. BYU's Guard Young won the all-around competition with a 57.925.
Stanford also received top performances from sophomore Brandon Berkenbile (Albuquerque, NM), senior Craig Nesbitt (Springfield, Mo.) and junior Rico Andrade (Plymouth, Minn.). Nesbitt placed second on the pommel horse with a 9.55, while Berkenbile placed third on the floor exercise with a 9.40. Andrade had a third place finish on the parallel bars with a 9.35.Stanford will be back in action at the Winter Cup Challenge on February 11-12 in Las Vegas, Nev.
