Men's Crew Defeats Santa Clara In First Race Of The Season

Stanford, CA - The Stanford men's crew team swept Santa Clara to kick-off the 2000 crew season on Sunday, March 19 at Redwood Shores. Rowing into a stiff 25-mph headwind, Stanford crossed the finish line with open-water leads in each of the three races contested against the visiting Broncos.

In the men's varsity four, the Stanford A and B boats finished in a dead heat with a time of 7:11. Santa Clara was third in 7:32. In their first official race in a Stanford boat, the men's novice eight pulled away from Santa Clara for a 51-second victory. Stanford and Santa Clara were timed in 6:53 and 7:44, respectively. In the novice four race, Stanford defeated Santa Clara 8:00 to 8:20.

On Saturday, March 25, the Cardinal men will travel to Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, CA to take-on Sacramento State. Stanford will return to Redwood Shores on Sunday, March 26 to race UC Santa Barbara.
