Stanford, Calif. - Stanford fencer Felix Reichling defended his title as he defeated Ozren Debic of Notre Dame 15-10 to win the 2000 NCAA Champion in the foil for the second year in a row.
The Stanford men made a good showing at the Championships, hosted at Stanford University, with Robert Owens taking seventh and David LaValle placing 10th in the sabre. In the Foil, Reichling took first place and Alex Wood finished fifth. In the epee, Eric Tribbett placed fifth and Tom Hunt finished 21st.
The Stanford women also put up points to help the team to its fourth place finish. In the sabre, which was fenced by women for the first time at the NCAA Championships this year, Katie Stephan placed 15th and Diane Boudalis finished 21st. Monique de Bruin took second in the women's foil, and Ute Breden finished eighth. In the epee, Annie Simpson placed 16th, and Jessica Lisagor finished 17th.
Penn State took first place with 175 points and Notre Dame and St. John's tied for second with 171 points.
