Stanford Men's Volleyball Downs Cal in Exhibition

Stanford, Calif. -- The Stanford men's volleyball team defeated California 15-11, 15-12, 15-9 in an exhibition match tonight at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal received a career-high 18 kills from junior outside hitter Curtis Graham (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and 15 digs from freshman outside hitter Seth Ring (Bend, Ore.) in the victory.

The Cardinal, which rested freshman middle blocker Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) and sophomore outside hitter Marcus Skacel (Laguna Niguel, Calif.), hit 34.7 percent for the match, recording 72 kills on 144 attacks.

Junior setter Josh Lukens (San Diego, Calif.) once again led the Cardinal in assists, as he compiled 64 of the Cardinal 68 assists.

California received 16 kills from Andy Krikorian and 55 assists from Donovan Wong.Stanford senior Josh Palacios (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made his season debut at the libero position. Palacios had missed the entire season because of an injury to his shoulder. Palacios had 13 digs for the match.

Stanford will travel to UC Santa Cruz tomorrow for a 7 p.m. match with the Banana Slugs.
