Men's Gymnastics Nearly Defeats California

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's gymnastics team lost to California by 3.35 (228.95-to-225.6) points yesterday at Burnham Pavilion on the campus of Stanford University. The Cardinal remain winless against the Golden Bears this season, but did manage to capture its second win of the year against Arizona State, a club team. The Sun Devils completed the event with a score of 208.

In the all-around competition, Stanford's Jason Katsampes took top honors with a six event total of 57.05, followed by Cody Moore of California's 56.75. Katsampes had event highs on the Pommel horse and rings with scores of 9.95 and 9.85, respectively. Cardinal Jason Biltz finished third in the all-around competition with a 55.60.

Stanford produced a higher score than Cal on the pommel horse (38.05-to-37.06), and fell by no more than 1 point in the remaining five events.

Stanford will now take part in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, which take place at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. The championships begin March 18-19.
