Ladera, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team hosted UOP in a dual match on Sunday, April 9th. The dual meet was held at the River Bend Golf Course, which will be the site of the 2000 NCAA West Regional Championships, which will determine which teams will compete in the 2000 NCAA Championships hosted by Auburn University in Alabama.
The Cardinal competed against the Tigers in match play Sunday morning, with Stanford taking the round 22 1/2 points over the Tigers' four 1/2 points. In the match play round, six of Stanford's eight competitors shot an under-par round. Freshman Jim Seki had the best round, shooting a 5-under par 67. Jimmy Lee shot a 68, Dusty Brett posted a 69, Eric Dahlberg and George Downing each shot a two-under round of 70 and Alex Aragon recorded a 71.
In the afternoon, Stanford and UOP competed in medal play, with Stanford taking the match 598 strokes to the Tigers' 604. In the second round, freshman Jim Seki led the Cardinal again, shooting a two-under round of 70 along with teammate junior Alex Aragon. Freshmen George Downing and Ron Won shot rounds of 73.
The Cardinal men's golf team will be back on the green on April 15th when Stanford will travel to Provo, Utah for a dual match with BYU. The next tournament for the Cardinal is the Pac-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Arizona State on April 24-26.
