April 17, 2000

Lake Vancouver, Wash. - The Stanford men's and women's crew teams were swept by Oregon State on Saturday at Lake Vancouver, Wash., after windy conditions delayed the start of racing by one hour. The twelfth-ranked Oregon State women and No. 14 Beaver men defeated Stanford in the men's and women's varsity eight, junior varsity eight, and novice eight.

In the men's varsity eight, Oregon State was ten seconds better than Stanford as the Beavers crossed the finish line in 5:55 while Stanford followed in 6:05. After the first 500 meters, the Stanford women's varsity eight was narrowly ahead of Oregon State, but the Beavers pulled away over the final 1500 meters for a 6:47.5 to 7:00.1 victory.

Stanford has a bye week before racing resumes on Saturday, April 29 when women's teams from USC, Oregon State, Washington State, Texas, Kansas, San Diego State, Sacramento State, and UC Davis visit Redwood Shores. Sunday, April 30, at Redwood Shores is the annual Big Row between Stanford and Cal.
