Stanford Loses Closer In Overtime

STANFORD, Calif. - In their final regular season game the Cardinal fell to Cal-Berkeley 8-7, in overtime. After defeating the Bears earlier this season, Stanford had hoped for a win to close the season, but were overcome by Cal's tenacity. A fairly even match-up, with Stanford shooting 21 shots and Cal shooting 22 the game remained close, until the final goal by Cal in overtime. Stanford was led by the team's offensive leader sophomore Caroline Osterwise, who scored three-straight goals during the second half to bring Stanford up 7-6. Osterwise had four total goals and three other Stanford players each added one goal.

Stanford's tough defense forced Cal to earn their goals, with goalkeeper Rachael Neumann tallying 13 saves and sophomore Emily Rodriguez recording five caused turnovers. The Cardinal ends the regular season with a record of 11-10 and will compete next weekend in the WWLL North Division I Quarterfinals. They will play at Davis against Cal at 2pm on Saturday, April 29, 2000.
