Los Angeles, Calif. - The top-ranked Stanford women's tennis teamextended its win streak to 35 matches with a 7-2 victory over UCLA Friday,April 7.
Ahead 4-1 with one singles match to play, Stanford clinched thedual match after Gabriela Lastra, who fought off three match points at 4-5,0-40 in the third set, came back to defeat Elizabeth Schmidt 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.Third-ranked Marissa Irvin remains unbeaten this season, extending herwinning streak to 13-0 after defeating Sara Walker 6-2, 6-2.
Stanford also took two of three doubles matches, winning both 8-5.The fifth-ranked Cardinal double team of Teryn Ashley and Marissa Irvindefeating UCLA's Walker and Cooper 8-5, giving them a record of 9-1 thisseason.
The Cardinal is 19-0 this season, and has not lost a dual matchsince February 27, 1999. Stanford head coach Frank Brennan will seek his500th career victory on Saturday, April 8 when the Cardinal will take onUSC in Southern California.
