Women's Lacrosse Wins In First Round, 7-4

May. 1, 2000

STANFORD, Calif. -- Last week's loss to Cal-Berkeley did nothing but fuel the Cardinal to defeat them in the first round of the Western Women's Lacrosse League North Division playoffs. They beat the Golden Bears 7-4 in Davis, after dominating the majority of the game. Stanford sophomore Liz Britt and junior Sarah Lev scored two goals apiece and sophomore Caroline Osterwise added one goal and two assists. Goalkeeper Rachael Neumann recorded eight saves and eight clears to shut out attempts by Cal to gain the lead.

Stanford started the game out on top with Cardinal attack Liz Britt and midfielder Emily Rodriguez each scoring in the first 15 minutes. The Bears came back to score two goals as well, but were quickly matched by two more from Stanford to end the first half 4-2. In the second half, Sarah Lev's two goals kept the Bears at bay for the remainder of the game.

With this win Stanford advances to the WWLL Final Four on May 6. They will play the winner the UCLA-Cal Poly playoff game.
