Women's Soccer Player Marcia Wallis Scores Goal In International Match

U.S. Under-21 Team picks up 5-0 win.

BAMBERG, Germany - Stanford women's soccer player Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA) tallied a goal as the U.S. Under-21 team defeated Finland 5-0 Tuesday. The U.S. advances to play host Germany in the championship game of the 2000 Nordic Cup on Thursday.

The U.S. scored four first-half goals before Wallis found the back of the net in the 82nd minute. The goal came off a corner kick from Caroline Putz, who sent a bending ball to the near post before Wallis flicked it to the back post. Wallis came into the game in the second half and played 33 minutes.

Wallis is entering her second season with the Cardinal this fall after being named the Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the year in 1999. She was second on the team in scoring with 10 goals and two assists. Stanford advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with an overall record of 15-5-1.

Stanford opens the 2000 season at home with St. Mary's on August 27 at 1:00 p.m.
