STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer team defeated Wisconsin 2-0 Friday night before 212 at New Maloney Field. The Cardinal improves to 2-0-0, while the Badgers drop to 1-2-0.

The Cardinal got on the board in the 19th minute on an own goal by the Badgers. Stanford freshman Alisan Pabon (Dallas, TX) crossed the ball from 35 yards out to the middle of the box before a Wisconsin defender headed the ball into the goal.

It wasn't until the 86th minute when Stanford added an insurance goal. Freshman Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) scored on a close-range shot with Becky Myers (St. Charles, IL) picking up the assist.

The Badgers outshot the Cardinal 13-11 in the game (7-4 in the first half). Stanford goalkeeper Carly Smolak (Lake Oswego, OR) recorded five saves in the net, all coming in the first half. Wisconsin keeper Kelly Conway tallied one save.

Stanford is in action again next Friday, Sept. 8 when it plays Connecticut in the opening round of the Notre Dame Tournament.
