ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The third-ranked Stanford University women's volleyball team opened its 2000 season with a 15-5, 15-3, 15-8 win over Drake University (0-1) in the University of New Mexico's Comcast Lobo Invitational on Friday morning.

Stanford returns to action Friday afternoon at the Johnson Center against Portland State University at 4:00 p.m. (PT). In Friday's early morning match, Portland State fell to Washington 15-0, 15-7, 15-6.

"This was a good way for us to start the season," Stanford interim head coach Denise Corlett said after her team scored 11 of the match's first 12 points and never looked back in the 60-minute victory. "We played well, and Ashley Ivy stepped up and had a great match for us."

Ivy, a sophomore outside hitter from Arlington, Texas (Lamar HS), had a match-high 10 kills and a team-high four blocks to go along with six digs. The four blocks tied her career-high set last September 8th at Louisiana State.

Freshman Jennifer Harvey (Denver, CO/Kent Denver School) added eight kills for the winners, while junior Sara Sandrik (Pelham, AL/Pelham HS) had a match-high 10 digs and seven kills as Stanford won its 15th season opener in the last 16 years.
