Northeastern Defeats Stanford Field Hockey

Sept. 10, 2000

Stanford, Calif. -- In a tightly-contested match, the only goal of the day was one by Northeastern with 11:25 remaining in the second overtime period. The 1-0 loss ends a two-week stretch during which the Cardinal played its first eight games of the season.

The Cardinal played tough during regulation and played with intense emotion during both overtime periods. Stanford's offense tallied 12 shots on the day and the defense kept the Huskies in check. Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Shapiro recorded nine saves on the day.

Northeastern's Fior D'Alize Arrindell, a sophomore forward, recorded the Huskies goal on an assist from junior Kelly Williams during a penalty corner.

Stanford's next opponent is conference-foe SW Missouri State, which comes to The Farm on Tuesday, Sept. 19 for a 3 p.m. game.

Earlier in the day, 14th-ranked Boston College crushed NorPac member Pacific 8-0. Four Eagles scored on the day: Gina Dinan (3), Jen Hall(2), Elizabeth Reh (2) and Amelie Wulff (1). Wulff also tallied two assists and Reh added another assist. Boston College had 35 shots against Pacific's three. The Tigers starting goalkeeper, Lisa Bench, recorded 20 saves but allowed six goals. Stanford faces Pacific twice this year. The first match will be the conference game held in Stockton on Oct. 21. On Oct. 28, the Tigers will again visit the Varsity Hockey Turf Field to face the Cardinal.
