Box Score

HANOVER, N.H. - - The Stanford men's soccer team scored three goals in each half en route to a 6-0 victory over Dartmouth and the championship of the Kappa/Hypertherm Dartmouth Men's Soccer Classic. At 5-0-0, the Cardinal is off to its best start since the 1997 squad began the year with nine consecutive wins. Dartmouth falls to 2-2-0.

Senior forward Scott Leber was named the tournament's Offensive MVP after tallying an assist on Friday and scoring a pair of goals today. Cardinal goalkeeper Adam Zapala made four saves in 65 minutes before giving way to Andrew Terris, who finished Stanford's fifth straight shutout. The Cardinal has outscored its first five opponents 23-0.

Junior defender Lee Morrison netted what turned out to be the eventual game-winner just 3:07 into the match, heading in a cross from Aaron Biddle. The Cardinal then struck twice just before the half, with Johanes Maliza scoring off an assist from Roger Levesque at 41:52 and Mike Murphy feeding Leber at 42:35.

Derek Shanahan put on a passing display in the second half, feeding Leber for a goal in the 64th minute and Murphy at the 74:30 mark. Murphy's goal and assist were both the first of his career, marking the junior's successful comeback from a torn ACL suffered this past spring. Levesque finished the scoring at 81:40 by converting a cross from Corey Woolfolk.

Dartmouth goalkeeper Ben Gebre-Medhin faced 16 shots and recorded nine saves.

Levesque, Maliza and Ryan Nelsen (Defensive MVP) joined Leber on the All-Tournament team.

Stanford is next in action on Friday, Sept. 22, when it travels to Moraga for a 4 p.m. match with Saint Mary's.
