The third-ranked Stanford water polo team defeated seventh-ranked Pacific and 12th-ranked Air Force in first day action (Saturday) at the Southern California Tournament at Corona Del Mar High School.
Two goals each by Brian Darrow and Onno Koelman paced the Cardinal to an 8-6 victory over Pacific. In the second game, Rob Canales tallied three times and Darrow, Pasi Dutton and Peter Osborn each scored twice to lead Stanford to a 12-6 nod over the Air Force Academy.
The Cardinal will move into the championship semi-finals on Sunday at 12:20 p.m. against second-ranked California. The Golden Bears scored a 12-9 victory over Pepperdine, but lost to a 9-7 decision to UC San Diego.
