The fifth-ranked USC Trojans broke a 45-match home winning streak at Maples Pavilion this evening, defeating the Stanford Cardinal, 3-0. Game scores were 15-4, 15-8, 15-2.
Stanford drops to 7-3 overall, 2-1 in conference action, while the Trojans improve to 8-0, 3-0 in the Pac-10.
Stanford was plagued by hitting errors the entire match, only putting up a .000 attack percentage for the match. The Cardinal were outblocked 9-4 by USC and outdug 48-33. The Trojans hit .337 for the match.
Middle blocker Jennifer Detmer and outside hitter Sara Sandrik led the team with five kills each. Outside hitter Michelle Chambers notched a team-high 10 digs on the night. Sandrik had three blocks on the evening.
The Trojans were led by outside hitter Janae Henry who tallied a match-high 11 kills and 11 digs. Middle blockers Jennifer Pahl and Katie Olsovsky had six blocks each. Freshman April Ross added seven kills to the Southern California cause.
The victory for the Trojans marked its first in Maples Pavilion since 1977. The last time USC defeated Stanford was in 1998 in Los Angeles. USC had been 1-9 in its last 10 matches versus the Cardinal until tonight.
Stanford is back in action tomorrow night in Maples Pavilion against No. 7 UCLA. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
