Box Score

Arizona State outside hitter Amanda Burbridge tallied a match-high 24 kills as the Sun Devils defeated Stanford tonight in Tempe 3-1. Game scores were 15-8, 14-16, 15-4, 15-9.

It is ASU's first win over the Cardinal since 1993 in Tempe. Stanford's current four-match losing streak is the longest in school history.

Game one was a see-saw battle early in the match with four ties between the two teams. With the game knotted at 8-8, the Sun Devils went on an eight point run to close out the game on a kill by outside hitter Jami Coughlin. Although the Cardinal only hit .103 for the game, they notched seven blocks.

Stanford built an early 7-2 lead in game two but saw it evaporate as ASU pulled to within one at 7-6. The Cardinal would not let the Sun Devils get any closer and took a commanding 13-6 lead. Once again, however, ASU came back to tie the game 14-14. Stanford would take the lead on a service ace by Tara Conrad and win the game on a block by Sara McGee and Lindsay Kagawa.

Game three saw the Sun Devils build an early 9-2 lead over Stanford and never look back. ASU hit .483 for the game, winning 15-4, to take a 2-1 lead for the match.

ASU again jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the Cardinal answered with six straight points to take a 6-3 lead. The Sun Devils rallied to tie the game at 6-all and then built a 10-6 lead by scoring seven straight points. Stanford would pull to within two at 10-8 but ASU scored three straight points to go ahead 13-8. The Cardinal would hold off three match points before falling 15-9.

Stanford was led by Ashley Ivy and Tara Conrad who notched 13 kills each, followed by Sara Sandrik's 12 kills. Freshman middle blocker Sara McGee set a career high with eight blocks for the match. Ivy led the team defensively with 13 digs as well.

Stanford (7-6, 2-4 Pac-10) will return home this week and face the Washington schools in the friendly confines of Maples Pavilion over the weekend.
